Whatever it takes if you want an early grave

Pros

The scenery is pretty but you're lucky if you can enjoy it.

Cons

There's a reason why they're always recruiting here - no staff retention because this is an unbelievably unhealthy environment to work in. Whatever it takes is their mantra, and to be fair it fits. If you want a healthy work/life balance, try working here until 8pm/9pm for the same fixed salary. You're lucky if you get a bite to eat for lunch, because if someone says jump you jump. Oh, and forget about the early Friday summer finishes promised in the staff benefits - that seems to only be reserved for those with kids, otherwise you're stuck there until the client gets what they want, which is hard if half the company goes home - then you're dealing with the flack. If you're the lowest of the chain, don't expect to be managed - you'll just be picking up your own managers workload whilst they swan off. You're told to offer help to other teams, but don't expect any back. Don't expect professionalism or confidentiality - that's why I'm writing this. And it isn't even half of it.

Bray Leino Response

We’re sorry to read about such a negative experience. You’re clearly not having a good time. Please bring up your concerns with a manager or one of our HR team so we can remedy this. We take the wellbeing of our people extremely seriously. We should point out that this person’s experience is not typical. In our annual staff survey, 80% of respondents said they were proud to work here and described the atmosphere as good; 83% said they find it engaging and motivating. On average people stay with us for longer than other communications agencies, and many build entire careers with us. It’s concerning and upsetting to read a comment like this, but it’s also worth pointing out that we work in a highly competitive industry. We’ve been successful over 40 years because we work hard. We expect excellence, initiative and commitment from our people; and yes, sometimes that means we work late. The rewards are there; but it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. Assuming you’re still with the business, let’s have a confidential chat and turn this around so you can start having a good time again.

Pros

Nice location, that is it... just making the minimum words now...

Cons

You'll be working late. Many middle managers just hang around on the days that they know their boss will be back to the office late, so you have to stay if you're work below them. sad really. You'll be made to feel like a skiver if you dare to leave on time on any day - I know people who left their coats in their car so they could sneak off without notice. Managers regularly change the time stamps of their emails to send out later in the evening, or very early morning, so that it looks like they're always on call.
