5 Ways to Thrive in a Fast-Paced Culture

It seems more and more is expected of us in the workplace and the pace in some organisations can be fast enough to leave you in a spin. So how do you not only survive but thrive in such a culture.
Build Resilience
Treat your mind and body in the right way. Energy drinks, chocolate and coffee might give you a brief boost but they won’t be giving you the right platform for your resilience.
Eat a healthy diet and keep your sugar intake to a minimum. Snacks of raw veggies, fruit and a handful of nuts will give you an essential boost for a longer time.
Build in time for exercise and take regular breaks in the day. A brisk walk during breaks will give you a much needed endorphin boost.
Build in down time for rest and relaxation. Keep a positive connection with friends and family and non-work related activities. Hobbies and creativity outside of work will give you an important balance to the ‘busyness’ of work.
Make sure you get enough sleep so your brain and body can recharge. Cut back on sleep and your energy levels and concentration will soon start to decline.
Be Agile
Being able to adapt to change is key to moving forward. One thing we can all be sure of is that things change. Resisting change creates stress. So be flexible and move forward. Adapt and flow through the ‘change curve’. Get out of denial, doubt and disbelief as fast as you can and thrive through acceptance to peak performance.
Be a supporter and a catalyst for improvements. Help those around you to deal with the change, see the positives and how they can maximise their own performance.
Have Attitude
Having a great attitude will enable you to flourish through any situation, no matter what gets thrown at you! Developing your emotional intelligence, self-awareness and your impact on others will give you the tools to stay in a calm place when the pressure is on.
Connect with your personal values and bring them in to your interactions with others. Have respectful and constructive communications. Work with others rather than trampling over them to get ahead. Collaboration helps everyone to flow and flourish and brings enormous benefits to all involved as well as the organisation.
Set goals
Keeping everything in your head will just take up valuable energy and brain processing time so get organised and keep a ‘to do list’ in a way that suits you best. Set clear and focused goals, breaking the larger ones down into smaller chunks so you stay focused, on track and out of overwhelm.
Limit distractions, plan ahead, prioritise and keep adjusting the plan to incorporate the changes and the fast pace.
24/7 boundaries
Being available all of the time might seem like a good idea to get you noticed, but as time goes on you will be driving yourself towards burnout. Setting personal boundaries so you can achieve all of the tips above is fundamental.
Without setting your boundaries, you will end up losing all sense of self, as work starts to dominate and encroach on all areas of life – which is the slippery slope to stress and burnout.
Keep your boundaries in place, maintain resilience and life balance and you will thrive in any environment.
